Behind the Coffee Pot

Made in North Alabama. Made by Hand. Made with a Little Obsession.

Hi, I'm David — the person behind the printer and yes, the coffee pot.

I started 3D printing because I needed a creative outlet. What began as curiosity quickly turned into a full-blown love affair with the process: the hum of the machine and the quiet satisfaction of watching something go from a digital idea to a real, holdable thing. I never planned to sell anything. Then people started asking where they could get one.

Behind the Coffee Pot is based in North Alabama — a place I'm genuinely proud to call home. You'll see that pride woven into the products: local maps, regional landmarks, and designs that celebrate the character of this corner of the South. If you're from here, you'll recognize it. If you're not, maybe you'll want to visit.

How It's Made

Every piece starts as a design — sometimes mine, sometimes inspired by a customer request — and gets printed on an FDM printer using PLA filament. FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) builds objects layer by layer, which gives many of my pieces that distinctive knitted, textured look that people either immediately love or have to touch to believe.

After printing, each piece is hand-finished: supports removed and edges smoothed. Nothing ships straight off the build plate. The extra time matters, and you can feel it.

What Makes These Different

A lot of 3D printed products look like... 3D printed products. Mine are designed to look intentional. The knitted texture is a signature, not a side effect. The articulated pieces actually move. And the humor? Well, if you've browsed the shop, you already know I don't take things too seriously — and I think that's exactly right for something that's supposed to make you smile every time you open the fridge.

Whether you're buying a gift, decorating your space, or just treating yourself to something a little unexpected — I'm glad you found your way here.
